Some jumped into the sea. One bride became the dee

Some jumped into the sea. One bride became the deejay of her own wedding. Someone else poured beer over a very happy crowd, while another couple disappeared through the city on a little scooter ride. One bride had to feed the youngest guest just before saying “yes.” And some simply wanted to take a walk through the city and have it photographed on 35mm film, trusting the unpredictable magic of analogue photography. I photograph weddings using both digital and 35mm film together, combining the freedom and immediacy of digital photography with the texture, imperfections and surprises that make film feel so special.

Different couples, different places, different ways of celebrating. This is one of the things I love about being an alternative wedding photographer in Rome, Italy. Every couple creates a celebration that reflects their own personality, whether it unfolds on a rooftop, through the streets, beside the sea, in a countryside house or somewhere completely unexpected. Sometimes the ceremony is quiet and intimate. Sometimes the party gets beautifully chaotic. Sometimes the best photograph happens when everyone forgets there is a photographer in the room. Rome, Tuscany, Sicily or anywhere else in Italy, I am always drawn to alternative weddings that feel personal, spontaneous and completely honest.

Not perfect weddings.

Real ones.

A wedding in Tuscany, remembered on 35mm film.

I first met Jessica and Matthew last year in Rome. We wandered through the city together, taking photographs and talking between one street and the next. There was an ease between them that made the afternoon feel less like a photoshoot and more like spending time with two people I had known for much longer.

A year later, they invited me to photograph their wedding in Tuscany.

They travelled from Los Angeles with the people who had witnessed the many chapters of their relationship. By the end of June, the Tuscan countryside was already bright and dry: olive trees standing beneath the afternoon sun, cypresses marking the hills, and old rooms filled with dresses, open windows and the beautiful disorder of getting ready.

The day unfolded through small scenes. Jessica laughing while her friends helped her into her dress. Matthew walking down the country road with his friends, looking composed until someone said something that made them all forget the camera. A veil moving in the breeze. Hands reaching to fasten buttons, straighten fabric or hold someone in the air. A gelato cart waiting quietly beneath the trees. The sudden, joyful chaos of parasols, embraces and people who had travelled a very long way to be together.

What stayed with me most was the way Jessica and Matthew communicated without needing to say much. The affection between them was never performed. It appeared in glances, gestures and the instinctive way they moved towards one another.

As a Tuscany wedding photographer, this is what I love most about 35mm film wedding photography in Italy: film remembers a wedding differently. It keeps the grain, the movement, the missed perfection and the atmosphere around a moment. These are the first photographs I wanted to share from their wedding in Tuscany. The digital story will follow later.

Michal and Patrycja came all the way from Poland w

Michal and Patrycja came all the way from Poland with their families to get married in Rome. Their wedding took place at the Polish Embassy in Rome, and these photos were taken across different days, in the city and on the beach in Anzio. I had the chance to photograph their happy days here in Italy: the celebrations in Borghese Gardens, the joy on their faces during the sunset photoshoot, the uninvited dog who somehow fit perfectly into the frame, and so many other small, lovely details that I know I will remember for many years.

What stayed with me most was their warmth. Michal and Patrycja reminded me how beautiful it is to build a family that feels welcoming, kind, and full of life, and how important it is to have supportive family members standing behind every decision a couple makes.

I am also so happy that, during the photoshoot, I could show the inner child still living in their souls. The playful looks, the running, the laughter, the way they allowed themselves to be completely present with each other. Those are the moments I love the most. As a wedding photographer in Rome, I will never get bored of meeting such lovely people and photographing their candid, natural moments. I’ll never forget how strongly we hugged each other just before saying goodbye. They invited me to Poland and wanted to welcome me there as their friend.

The same accident also forced me to learn the very humble art of sitting down to take a shower.

I had barely stepped into the garden at Denise and

I had barely stepped into the garden at Denise and James’ villa in Cefalù, before I’d even taken the lens cap off, and the very first question they asked me was: “Would you like a beer?” In that Sicilian heat, the only correct answer was yes. Obviously. It would have been culturally rude not to. Denise and James came from Ireland with their beautiful little family, a villa full of love, and one tiny princess who very clearly had no intention of letting the bride get all the attention. After the ceremony at the villa, we headed down to the centre of Cefalù for a little walk and some sunset portraits by the sea.

I photographed the day on both digital and 35mm film, but as usual, the analogue photos arrive first because I like making myself emotional before doing the serious editing work. The whole family was so kind to me from the first minute, and I know I’ll always remember this wedding with a very big smile.

Cefalù, Irish warmth, Sicilian heat, cold beer, family chaos, and a little bit of film magic. Not a bad day to be a wedding photographer in Sicily.

When the bride is the deejay of her own wedding, you know the day is going to have its own rhythm.

Madeline did exactly that.

I photographed those moments first at the Tuk Tuk Bar, then later at Vista Rooftop, and they became some of my favourite parts of the whole day. There is something beautiful about a bride who does not just live the day, but also shapes its energy.

Madeline and Josh’s wedding in Rome refused to stay in one place, or even in one mood. The ceremony, the celebrations, the little pauses, the drinks, the music, the rooftop, the streets of Rome. Everything moved, and somehow that movement made the whole day feel even more alive.
Not a wedding trapped in one room, not a celebration waiting politely for the next formal moment. Just music, friends, family, Rome, and a day that felt completely theirs. I think this is why I love slightly unconventional weddings so much. The ceremony can happen in one place, the drinks somewhere else, the party on a rooftop, the best moments somewhere in between. A wedding does not need to follow one strict shape to be meaningful. Sometimes it becomes even more memorable when it moves through the city like a story.

From the very first message Marielle and Alan sent me about their elopement in Spello, one thing was clear. “We’re not camera shy, but we don’t want to be in crowds on our special day. That’s why we chose Spello.” That sentence shaped everything. We planned the morning around quiet streets, soft light, empty corners and the kind of slow walk that almost feels made for film photography. Nothing too polished. Nothing rushed. Just time, texture, light and the feeling of a small Umbrian town becoming part of their story. The rain delayed us a little at the beginning, but maybe that was part of the mood too. Afterward, the day unfolded beautifully. They read their vows to each other on the balcony of the house where they were staying, surrounded by the calm of Spello. Then we walked through town together.

Narrow streets, flowers everywhere, shadows on old stone walls, coffee, gelato, little pauses, long conversations. The kind of day where every small imperfection made the memory feel more alive. Marielle is American, Alan is Mexican, and they live in Mexico City. So naturally, our conversations moved between Italy and Mexico, differences and similarities, food, cities, habits, light and the feeling of belonging somewhere far from where you were born. As a film wedding photographer in Italy, this is something I often think about. Film has a way of holding these in between moments differently. It does not just record how something looked. It keeps a trace of how it felt. The pace, the softness, the grain, the waiting, the little uncertainty. And honestly, I think that is a very lucky way to live 🎞️

A little town just outside Rome, two people who travelled from Ireland to make their dream happen, and a day that felt intimate, gentle, and full of meaning. This elopement in Tivoli started at the beautiful Comune di Tivoli, then continued through the quiet streets of the town, with a mix of digital and 35mm film photographs. Tivoli has this special kind of charm: close to Rome, but slower, softer, and perfect for couples who want something romantic without feeling too staged.

The energy of this young couple was honestly amazing. They were so easy to collaborate with, simply having fun, being themselves, and trusting my lead without ever turning the day into something complicated. At one point, I wanted to take a few photos of them with sunglasses, but the bride didn’t have any with her. My assistant offered hers, and the bride happily went along with it. No bridezilla energy here, only an easygoing bride, a relaxed groom, and two people fully enjoying their day. As a wedding photographer, that kind of openness makes everything feel lighter, more natural, and much more alive. It was such a pleasure to photograph these two on their special day and to be part of a chapter they came all the way to Italy to live.

For couples looking for a documentary wedding photographer in Italy, my work begins with a simple idea: your wedding day should feel lived, not staged. Over the years, I have photographed couples who came to Italy from many different corners of the world. Some walked with me through the quiet streets of Rome at sunrise. Some chose the sea light of Sicily. Some celebrated in old villas, small villages, family tables, hotel rooms, churches, gardens and streets that were never meant to become a set. That is exactly what I love. As a candid wedding photographer in Italy, I look for the life between the planned moments. The hand held while crossing a street. The nervous laugh before the ceremony. The veil caught by the wind. The espresso after the vows. The parents trying not to cry. The city continuing around you, as if nothing extraordinary is happening, while something unforgettable is happening.
