A quiet piece of my everyday life in Rome is making its way to Paris.

This photograph, from the window I have looked through while writing for the past four years, will be exhibited as part of Somewhere: Fragments of Memory at @imagenationparis 2026, during Paris Photo week.

There is something I like about an image so ordinary and personal leaving the place where it was made, and becoming part of another room, another city, another memory.

Mathilde and Bendik came from Norway to Tuscany an

Mathilde and Bendik came from Norway to Tuscany and brought their people with them from Norway and different corners of Europe for a wedding at Villa Catignano that felt warm, elegant and completely alive.

They were a little shy in front of the camera at first, but they already knew my work and gave me probably the best kind of brief a photographer can receive: we trust you, just do your thing.

So that’s what I did.

Everyone spoke Norwegian, which meant I couldn’t always follow what was being said or know exactly what was about to happen. But I’m an observer by nature, so I found myself completely locked into body language, facial expressions and emotional reactions instead. A glance across the room, someone suddenly laughing, a hand reaching for another hand, the few seconds before a hug. Those little signals became my way of following the day and anticipating the moments.

As the hours passed, they forgot more and more about the cameras. I could simply move through the day and photograph what was happening rather than direct it.

Somewhere along the way I also found out that Bendik was into road cycling, so naturally we ended up talking about bikes and I started suggesting routes for the rest of their time in Tuscany and Italy. I like these small connections that happen around a wedding day. By the end, it feels less like I’ve simply been there as their Tuscany wedding photographer and more like I’ve actually spent the day with them.

I photographed everything with both digital cameras and 35mm analogue film. Two different ways of remembering the same day: one more immediate, the other imperfect, tactile and especially good once the night got louder.

There are far too many photographs from this wedding that I want to share, so there will definitely be a second post.

A surprise engagement photoshoot in Rome, on a beautiful afternoon in Villa Borghese. The first few minutes had to stay completely secret while I waited for the proposal moment to happen. After that, everything changed: lots of laughter, movement, wind, and two people who were incredibly fun to photograph. This is exactly what I love about working as an engagement photographer in Rome. Once the secret was out, there was nothing left to do but enjoy the afternoon together and let the photos happen naturally.

A 35mm film engagement photoshoot in Rome with two newly engaged people from Brooklyn.

She booked me months before their trip because she specifically wanted the photos taken on film. Which, obviously, made me happy. We met in the morning and mostly just walked. No complicated itinerary. A few stops when the light or a street looked good, some portraits, a coffee, a deck of cards that became unexpectedly useful, later a little wine, and a lot of laughing in between.

They’re getting married back in the US, so technically this was an engagement photoshoot. But I like these sessions much more when they don’t spend two hours announcing that fact. The ring is there, the Colosseum is there, Rome is there but mostly it’s just the two of them being themselves. That’s also what I love about photographing couples on 35mm film. You can’t keep shooting the same moment twenty times and checking the screen after each frame. You take the photograph and move on. Sometimes things are slightly out of focus, somebody moves, a hand enters the frame or the composition gets a little strange.

Good. That’s usually where the photographs start feeling alive. 35mm film photography in Rome, somewhere between an engagement session, a morning walk and hanging out with two people who clearly enjoy each other’s company.

The bride holding a Sangiovese grape somewhere in the vineyards of southern Tuscany feels like the right way to start the digital chapter of their elopement. Rana and Zach came all the way from Texas because they wanted something completely different from a traditional wedding. Just the two of them, far from home, spending an entire day together in Val d’Orcia.

We moved slowly through the countryside, vineyards and little medieval towns around Pienza, Bagno Vignoni and Montalcino, stopping whenever something felt worth stopping for. And because I studied wine, especially Italian wine, I somehow feel responsible for giving my couples a little wine education when we are in places like this. So between photographs there was also plenty of talk about Sangiovese, vineyards and the wines of Montalcino.

Rana was also into 35mm film photography, so at some point I handed her my Leica to play with for a bit. Naturally, that also turned into a few portraits of her holding it, which felt very fitting for the day. We were together from the beginning of the day until dinner, which eventually turned into another long conversation. Zach is an academic, and with my degree in Political Science and International Relations, politics and society inevitably entered the discussion. Film photography, grain, texture, and why analogue images feel different also found their way to the table. That was probably my favourite part of the day. Clicking with two people through completely different interests while documenting something they had deliberately chosen to keep intimate and entirely their own.

Wedding photographer in Milan, but make it a morni

Wedding photographer in Milan, but make it a morning with trams, coffee, a little 35mm film and two people who finally get to live in the same city! 🙃 Asena and Bedirhan spent part of their relationship moving around Europe for study and work, sometimes doing the long distance thing along the way. Now they finally live together in Milano, and after getting married they wanted some photographs to mark that chapter.

We started at the Duomo, where Bedirhan had proposed to Asena, wandered through the Galleria and nearby streets, jumped on one of the old Milan trams they both love, stopped for coffee and kept everything easy. We had already met the evening before for aperitivo and pasta, which helped a lot because by the time I brought the cameras out the next morning, it already felt more like hanging out than doing a photoshoot.

I also carried my film camera and shot a few frames on 35mm film along the way, because apparently carrying only one camera would be too sensible. And a small reminder, because Instagram seems to enjoy hiding this information from people: Yes, I travel! 😌 Milano, Florence, Venice, Tuscany, Sicily and pretty much anywhere else in Italy. I also photograph weddings and couples around Europe. So if you’re looking for a wedding photographer in Milan and you prefer walking, talking, trams, coffee and photographs that don’t feel like a two hour posing class, you know where to find me.

Sometimes a solo trip to Rome is simply about having some time for yourself. She wanted to celebrate exactly that, some me time, her tattoos, and this particular moment in her life. So we spent a few hours making portraits, talking, experimenting, and having fun with both digital photography and 35mm film. For one of the photographs, I took inspiration from one of Edward Weston’s iconic nude images, playing with the body more as shape, line, and form than as a traditional portrait. A slightly different kind of solo portrait session in Rome. Personal, relaxed, and without needing Rome’s monuments in every frame. I loved being her solo travel photographer in Rome for a few hours, capturing this little chapter of me time, tattoos, and feeling good in her own skin.

Rana and Zach came all the way from Texas for their elopement in Tuscany, and we spent the day wandering through the countryside of Val d’Orcia, between Pienza, Bagno Vignoni and the little roads in between.

I photographed their day on both digital and 35mm film, but as usual, the film photographs come first.

Zach is an academic, and since I have a degree in Political Science and International Relations, it was probably inevitable that dinner turned into a long conversation about politics, society, and the differences between life in Italy and the US. Rana was also into 35mm film photography, so somewhere along the way we ended up talking about film too, about its texture, its imperfections, and the particular feeling it gives to photographs.

It was fun for me to click with these two in completely different areas over the course of the day.

A very simple, very Tuscan kind of day.

I photograph weddings, couples and events for a li

I photograph weddings, couples and events for a living, but these are the photographs I take for myself.

Prague, Milan, Rome, Paris, Tuscany, Cefalù. Different cameras, different films, different days. The Contax G2, Contax T2 and Leica M6 were with me, but there was never really a plan.

Just things that made me stop.

A woman sitting at the next table in this slightly masculine, relaxed way that I found incredibly attractive. The position of her legs, the confidence of it, the contrast between softness and attitude. Someone shy enough to hide behind her phone while I photographed her. A bride drinking coffee at a bar. A stranger I may never see again. Sunlight cutting through a room. Shadows on a wall. A colour appearing in exactly the right place. People doing absolutely ordinary things that, for a second, didn’t feel ordinary at all.

Some photographs come from conversations. Some from encounters that last thirty seconds. Some people know I photographed them. Some will discover the photographs later.

I think that is one of the things I love most about carrying a film camera: it gives me a reason to pay attention.

Not everything beautiful asks to be photographed.

But sometimes it does.
